Heading North

Tomorrow we head to our sites to stay for a week, meet the community, the teachers, and the pupils.  We are alone at our future sites for five days, then head to a current PCVs house to have language and culture sessions with our language tutors.  But I'm getting ahead of myself ... we got our site information!

I am heading to ...
Northern Province
Mbala District
Zombe Village

I will be ...
300m from a boarhole (some water)
300m from school
2km from Cheif Zombe
10km from my nearest PCV neighbor
15km from the BOMA (or town)
30km from some beautiful water falls
and only about 15km from the Tanzanian border

Tuesday and Wednesday we met our supervisors from our sites.  Gracewell Musonda will be looking after me and my projects.  He is the Head Teacher at Zombe Basic School, and the Zonal Head Teacher for our zone.  He is a wonderful man who has experience with Peace Corps and is excited by my energy, qualifications, and the chitenge skirt that I made and wore for our first meeting!

Heading to Zombe tomorrow (well, on the way tomorrow, a night at a "guest house", or hotel, then to Zombe on Monday).

Will post again soon with how everything went at site.  This is our first real taste of what the next two years will be like and I could not be any more excited!
The teachers we'll work with, the kids we'll teach, our neighbors and new friends ...
                     THIS IS IT!

Much love from the Southern Hemisphere

  1. Jessi,

I've only just now looked up your blog and am excited to see you have an entry as recent as March 19th. It was a pleasure to meet you briefly on your flight out of San Diego. I will not forget the excitement you radiated.
